As part of the Cooper Center assessment of Virginia Beach's local election system, CSR conducted a survey of residents in 2023 to capture their experiences with and sentiments about the prior election systems and determine the community's preference for the local election system going forward. Four out of five respondents (81%) support keeping the 10-1 election system first used in the 2022 election.

National Diabetes Prevention Program
On behalf of the Virginia Department of Health and in partnership with the Virginia Center for Diabetes Prevention and Education, the Weldon Cooper Center’s Center for Survey Research (CSR) conducted a study to assess National Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Change Programs (DPP) across Virginia with respect to retention, referral, and recruitment. This multi-phase study was composed of three separate surveys, with data collection beginning in February 2021 for Phase I and concluding in January 2022 for Phase III. Results of the study were provided to VDH to inform their marketing efforts to raise awareness of prediabetes and the diabetes prevention programs across Virginia.

Virginia Beach's Local Election System: Engagement Outcomes and Recommendations

Overview:

BIMS Student Climate Survey
Overview:
In 2022, on behalf of the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program (BIMS), the Center for Survey Research (CSR) conducted a workplace climate survey of BIMS graduate students. The purpose of this anonymous web survey was to explore the workplace climate of BIMS, including sense of belonging and support, skills learned and satisfaction with graduate school, personal well-being, and identity-based harassment and misconduct.

Culpeper Youth Risk Behavior Survey 2022

As a follow-up to the 2017 survey, the 2022 Culpeper Youth Risk Behavior Survey was conducted to understand the extent to which risky behaviors and experiences of seventh through twelfth graders attending Culpeper County Public Schools have changed since 2017. This study was carried out in partnership with Culpeper County Public Schools (CCPS) and Culpeper County School Health Advisory Board (SHAB). The results of the survey are intended to inform CCPS's development of curricula and programs addressing local youth's well-being.

OADN Social Mission Pilot Scoring
Overview:
CSR's Social Mission Metrics Initiative project, conducted on behalf of George Washington University, included samples of Master's and Bachelor-level nursing programs. The Organization for Associate Degree Nursing undertook to collect responses from Associate Degree programs using the SMMI instrument. CSR then scored the results from 10 Associate-level nursing programs using the measures and weights developed for the SMMI project.

Cancer Survivor Treatment Burden and Well-being
Overview:
Gains in cancer detection and treatment have meant that more patients are now living with self-care needs for both cancer and other chronic health conditions, which may become burdensome. We used the Patient Experience with Treatment and Self-Management (PETS) framework to study challenges in self-care and its impact on health among survivors of women’s cancers who are caring for other chronic health conditions. CSR interviewed 183 survivors by phone. Results to appear in the Journal of Patient Reported Outcomes (2021).

Cancer Center - Catchment Area Health Assessment Survey
Overview:
Funded by NIH P30 NCI Supplement. Survey of University of Virginia Cancer Center's catchment area to capture residents' health behaviors, cancer knowledge and attitudes, and demographic characteristics. CSR drew simple random samples of 500 Human Services Transportation customers and 500 Senior Center customers from a population frame provided by client. 465 in-person surveys were collected by NCS county staff for customers of Community Centers, Teen Centers, and Technology Centers. County staff were instructed to collect a certain number of questionnaires based on center size and to sample from a diverse range of ages, genders, and races/ethnicities.

Annual Newsroom Diversity Survey
Overview:
The ASNE Newsroom Employment Diversity Survey has been conducted annually since 1978. The survey measures diversity of employees within newsrooms with respect to race, ethnicity and gender. NLA (formerly ASNE) has the goal of having the percentage of minorities working in newsrooms nationwide equal to the percentage of minorities in teh nation's population by 2025. The survey data is used by NLE to track newsroom employment trends to assess success of meeting this goal.
